I took this ravishing floral maxi by Baukjen (gifted) to Montpellier five weeks ago (it may as well have been another century), to stay at the Domaine de Verchant (press stay) and had a delightful time wafting about feeling like the Queen of Spring before returning home to the warm embrace of my sweatpants and 90s band T-shirt.
However, as the weather warms up here in London, I have every intention to shave my legs, cast off the cashmere cocoon, and emerge into my back garden dressed once again in a beautiful summer frock like someone who may, one day, leave the house.

THE FLORAL EDIT
Florals don’t have to be ditsy: try this cobalt blue midi with a white graphic floral from Ghost. It’s a universally flattering colour, but particularly good on blondes. This painterly print from Mango is sophisticated and absolutely on my shopping list.
Hems will start getting shorter soon – it’s inevitable after a couple of years of midis, and when it’s hot you don’t always want fabric swishing around your ankles. I like this pretty floral print sundress with good sleeves from Monsoon, currently reduced to £36 from £60. Points as well for it being made from responsibly sourced organic cotton. Or try this ditsy print chiffon number from M&S.
I do like a blue dress in summer: this pale blue loose everyday dress from Hush would go everywhere, and if you like a more structured dress, then this M&S midi shirt dress is perfect. Slightly smarter but still romantic is Mango’s chiffon number here. (Mango currently have 10% off for new shoppers, free delivery from £30 and 60 day free returns.) More grey than blue is this wonderful relaxed Me + Em piece.
If I could get away with no sleeves then I would be all over this lovely cotton-voile sundress from Rhode at Matches, currently reduced to £139 from £348, or this halterneck cotton dress by Rebecca Taylor, now £147 from £490, both via Matches.
If you want something pretty for a summer wedding (please, god let us be allowed out in time for some), then this Hobbs Blossom Pink silk dress has lovely movement, and will work just as well with white sneakers as it will with a heel. If you like brighter colours, then this gorgeous crepe wrap dress from Me & Em would be perfect.
And, finally, if you would rather chop your toes off than wear florals, here is my solution: the perfect black summer sundress with just a hint of floral embroidery, again from Monsoon, and also currently reduced to £36 from £60, and a new iteration of their extraordinarily flattering Dolly dress (I have it in two colourways already) in black schiffli lace. (Was £79, now £49.)
